Mike Bouchet

Remembering Mike Bouchet

August 23, 1964 – June 1, 2025

Jen Bouchet
Carbondale

Mike believed in connection and had a rare gift for it. “Mike’s magic, pass it on” began as a simple phrase during his celebration of life, inspired by his extraordinary ability to connect with people across differences and make others feel seen, welcomed
and included.

On this first anniversary of his passing, “Mike’s Magic, Pass It On” continues as
an invitation…

to find ways to connect with others through differences

to lead with curiosity rather
than judgment

to ask questions

to listen

to encourage

to laugh

to take the time for it

to slow down for it

to try

As many know, mountain biking was also extremely important to Mike, providing a special platform through which he experienced freedom, presence, challenge and joyful connection. He wanted others to be able to experience all of that as well. Because of this, he deeply valued organizations that support cycling access in the Roaring Fork Valley. Closest to his heart were three nonprofits: Roaring
Fork Cycling; Carbondale Bike Project;
and Roaring Fork Mountain Bike Association (RFMBA).

Mike loved the time he was coaching young mountain bike riders with Roaring Fork Cycling, coming home energized by the experience — full of stories about their challenges, successes and growth. He saw the sense of belonging and possibility that cycling created for young riders. He also loved spending hours at the Carbondale Bike Project where he could swap parts, access tools and guidance for repairs or bike-builds, and simply relish “talking bikes” with whomever was in the shop. And he knew that the magic happened on trails cared for through the incredible stewardship of RFMBA. His gratitude for these organizations and what they bring to the Valley was enormous.

To honor Mike at this one-year mark, in the spirit of his interpersonal generosity — Mike’s Magic — I encourage you to “pass it on” by creating connection with someone outside of what feels convenient or easy. As another meaningful way to honor him, please consider making a donation to Carbondale Bike Project, Roaring Fork Cycling and/or RFMBA. As nonprofits, this helps them in their beautiful missions that provide opportunity for connection, community and the joy of riding.

Ride on Mike. We love and miss you.
