What might have been a minor speeding ticket turned into a potential felony in the wee hours of Oct. 22 when a trio of local teens sped away instead of pulling over.
According to Police Chief Gene Schilling, the 2007 Honda Accord was clocked at over 100 miles per hour during its flight up Highway 133 and onto Highway 82. Police were considering giving up the chase rather than endanger other drivers when the teens pulled over.
The driver, a high schooler from the Basalt area, faces potential charges of vehicular eluding, speeding 40+ over the speed limit, failing to drive in a single lane and failing to display lamps when required.
