Talk out the trash

Locations: News Published

Do you support recycling and waste reduction? Fewer trucks on the street? Affordable trash pickup? Like having a choice of hauler? Want to protect the bears?

Well, you probably can’t have it all.

The Carbondale Trustees have been struggling with contradicting priorities for years. They could throw choice to the wind and put out a bid for a single hauler to the whole town to reduce truck traffic and probably save residents a bit of money. They could also require recycling, compost or volumetric pricing — but that’s likely to increase the bill for some or all residents whether they use those services or not. And if everyone in town is going to have bear proof cans, someone’s going to have to pay for it.

In an effort to inform Carbondalians about the options on the table and solicit feedback, the Town is hosting informational meetings on Wednesday, July 18, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Carbondale Farmer’s Market and 5 to 8 p.m. at the Town Hall (511 Colorado Ave.).
