The Sopris Sun
Works in Progress, New Year’s wrap
The Works in Progress page has become so popular, it wasn’t possible to print every submission in 2025. These are but a few of the poems received which haven’t, until now, met the page. Going on four years, it’s been a pleasure to share creative works by talented poets and artists sprinkled throughout the Valley […]
Toasting in 2026
As we reflect on 2025, a difficult year by many measures, I wish to raise a cheers to every conscious effort made to share kindness and understanding. Here at The Sopris Sun, we strive to be a bridge to many places and, most importantly, between people. This isn’t achieved by casting judgement, but honoring each […]
Year in Review 2025
For many, 2025 was a challenging year. Institutions, identities, entire industries were foundationally rocked. Notably, the list of obituaries was exceptionally long and included many community staples. For months, there were protests nearly every week. From outer instability, we were challenged to draw on inner strength and the Roaring Fork Valley rose to the occasion. […]

Local journalism gave me the opportunity to pursue my dreams
Let’s rewind the clocks 21 months. I was in the Roaring Fork Valley between the third and fourth semesters of my graduate studies, which I was pursuing via a small international university in southwestern Germany. In my free time, I was writing — not a new habit — but I was wondering if it was […]
Winter Solstice
By John F. NeileyGlenwood Springs The tattered remnants of the year unwindAs Earth leans weary on its wobbling pole. The waning sun retreats to warmer climesTo shield its pallid face from wind and cold. The ragged butt ends of the day burn low,While darkness of the longest night draws near. The river ebbs and freezes, choked and […]
Cómo The Sopris Sun cambió mi vida
