Jankovsky wins; Rankin beats Libertarian

Garfield County residents returned Republican Tom Jankovsky to the Garfield County Board of County Commissioners with almost 59 percent of the vote over Democratic challenger Michael Sullivan on Tuesday.
Jankovsky will re-join fellow Republicans John Martin and Mike Samson on the three-member board.
The race was for the District 1 seat, which covers from Carbondale to parts of Glenwood Springs.
A precinct and town break down — which shows where the votes came from in local, state and federal races — will be compiled and released by the Garfield County Clerk & Recorder until later this month.
In the District 57 Statehouse race, Rep. Bob Rankin of Carbondale defeated Libertarian Sacha Mero 77 to 23 percent and will return to Denver for a second term. According to the Craig Daily Press, police arrested Mero at her home on June 12 and charged her with domestic violence after her husband, Travis, called and asked for assistance for her “medical” and “psychological” behavior. Travis, who was running for Congress as a Libertarian in the Third District, told the Craig Daily Press his wife should not have been arrested.
In other local races, as of late Tuesday night, former Pitkin County Commissioner Patty Clapper was leading incumbent Rob Ittner 56 to 44 percent in the District 1 county commissioner race. Incumbent commissioner Rachel Richards ran unopposed.
In Basalt, three ballot issues were approved: a 5 percent sales tax on recreational marijuana (942-363), a 2 percent lodging tax (732-542), and lowering the residency requirement in elections to 22 days.
