After a brief respite, Garfield County and the Town of Carbondale have opted to reinstate Stage II fire restrictions.
That means no smoking or open flames except within an enclosed or barren area, no explosives or engines without a spark arresting device and no campfires except in designated pits. Hunting and firearm practice with normal ammunition is allowed, but tracer rounds and exploding bullets are prohibited. Contained flames like grills and woodstoves are allowed, and the Fire Chief may issue a permit if other fires is deemed appropriate.
Those found responsible for starting wildfires will face restitution costs of suppressing the fire.
