Thunder River Theatre Compay’s “Consensual Improv” troupe is back for one night with doors opening at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 14, and if the debut weekend last year is any guide, it’s likely to sell out fast.
“It was absolutely packed,” said TRTC artistic director Corey Simpson. That kind of response indicates that this is something we’re really hungry for.”

Two dozen people have applied to become the next station manager at KDNK, Carbondale’s community access radio station, and there is some hope that a new manager will be on the job within a matter of weeks, according to one station official.
The board has embarked on a national search to replace Steve Skinner, the long-time station manager who was dismissed late last year.

A Glenwood Springs nonprofit that helps school girls in Kenya, and an acclaimed documentary covering many of the same issues, meet in Carbondale with a screening of “Half the Sky” at the Crystal Theatre at 7:15 p.m. on Jan. 19.

A new generation is pitching in with Carbondale Daughters of Rebekah, and it’s none too soon.
Although the group has a steady volunteer base to help with the Near New secondhand store, active membership has declined over the years. Now, Rochelle Norwood has joined the fold as one of the youngest members in years, and with a couple other 30-somethings slated for induction early next month.

Even with only one piece per artist, the Valley Visual Art Show has grown so popular that participants are capped at 50.
Now in its 37th year, the show features two and three-dimensional work created in the last year by local artists, from dabblers to professionals, and opens Friday, Jan. 13 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Launchpad.

A new Roaring Fork school will open its doors next fall: the recently named Riverview School will serve pre-kindergarten through eighth grade students primarily from Glenwood Springs. The school will be located in the Eastbank area, near the intersection of Highway 82 and County Road 154 (the Westbank turnoff). The school was proposed as part of the 2015 bond issue to relieve overcrowding in Glenwood Springs schools and address the population growth expected in this area over the next five to ten years. Construction is scheduled to be completed by the start of the 2017-18 school year.

The Colorado Department of Transportation urged caution after numerous accidents on the Western Slope Monday morning, including a tanker truck rollover that closed Interstate 70 two miles west of Gypsum.
