Friends of Wally Dallenbach and the Town of Basalt would like to invite everyone to a Tribute Ride for Wally by Colorado 500 motorcycle riders during a Parade on Aug. 15 at 2pm in downtown Basalt.
A dedication ceremony honoring Wally and Peppy Dallenbach will be held near Alpine Bank at the new Dallenbach Park following the parade.
The riders will continue this week on the 50th anniversary of the Colorado 500 charity ride throughout the Western Slope.
“Wally Dallenbach Sr. was more than a motorsports legend, he was a man whose life was defined by innovation, hard work, family, generosity and deep community roots,” Janet Lohman stated perfectly. Wally and Peppy built a legacy in Basalt that continues to touch lives long after their passing.

AI data centers
The ongoing drought and widespread water restrictions in Colorado should concern all of us, as should the proposed AI data centers in Colorado Springs and Windsor. Although companies have run centers for decades for basic storage and routing of data, today’s centers are larger in order to host file servers and networking equipment that store, process and analyze information. These capabilities are critical for expanded AI, which allows computers to do more than ever before.
Yes, data centers can provide tax revenue to a community, but depending on their size, they can use massive amounts of electricity (enough to provide power to 400,000 homes) to cool millions of gallons of water every day. That will lead to severely reduced local utility capacity and increased utility bills for homes and businesses. In addition, once built and operational, centers employ relatively few people.
President Trump strongly supports the rapid buildout of AI data centers, framing them as vital for national security and economic dominance. His goal is to provide the computing power needed for defense innovations. However, it would introduce severe cyber, physical and energy grid vulnerabilities because centers are being built faster than security teams can protect them and us. In addition, allowing mega-water users is reckless while Coloradans face strict conservation measures.

Mark your calendars for THE GOOD FIGHT! A Rally to get out the vote, Saturday, Sept. 19, at 11 am at Paepcke Park in Aspen. It’s time to change the “regime” in D.C. We need to work together to safeguard our nation against Trump.
Rally speakers will address the egregious actions of the Trump admini-
stration, the shocking ICE offenses, the attacks on freedom of the press and civil rights, voter suppression, unnecessary wars, destruction of our National Forests, alienation of our allies, the death of affordability and healthcare and much more.
The current situation is worse than we ever feared and we need to find a way back to the country we all still remember and love. Our speakers will look for a new path, and much-needed hope.
