A ballot question asking Carbondale Fire District residents
to more than double their property tax mill levy failed in Tuesday’s election
with 1,515 (57 percent) casting “no” votes and 1,133 (43 percent) casting “yes”
votes.
On a related note, the district board of directors holds a
public hearing on the proposed 2014 budget at the Carbondale fire station
starting at 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 6.
In other election results:
- Carbondale residents
approved sales taxes on recreational marijuana 73 percent to 27 percent; - Midvalley Recreation
District voters defeated a property tax hike to build a recreation center
at Crown Mountain Park by a count of 1,981 to 739; - Basalt voters approved a
proposal to conduct flood control work on the Roaring Fork River by a
count of 65 percent to 35 percent; - Garfield County residents
voted against Amendment 66, which would have increased income taxes to
fund education by a count of 7,639 (68 percent) to 3,620 (32 percent). The
ballot question failed statewide.
