Age-Friendly Carbondale was busy Saturday morning, June 13, setting up flags representing town residents’ origins, with the American flag prominently waving as a symbol of unity on the Rio Grande Trail behind Town Hall, all in recognition of Flag Day, June 14. The installation, done in partnership with the Town of Carbondale and the Public Arts Commission, will remain on display through Monday, June 22. According to a Facebook post, the Israeli flag was removed shortly after the installation by an unknown person(s). The Israeli flag was replaced, but was cut down a second time. “Whoever is doing this is missing the whole point of the installation,” said Carbondale Police Chief Kirk Wilson, who added that if caught, a suspect may face misdemeanor criminal mischief and theft charges and, if intent is proven, a bias-motivated crime charge as well. RFSD update
Jonathan Delk has been appointed by a unanimous vote to serve as chair of the Roaring Fork School District Board of Education. Delk was recently appointed to the board to fill a vacancy left by Betsy After. “It is a profound honor to begin my service on the Roaring Fork School District Board of Education and, on that same day, to be entrusted by my colleagues with the responsibility of serving as board chair,” said Delk. “I understand that this is an unusual moment to step into leadership, but I also understand the obligation that comes with it: to listen carefully, lead steadily and keep the Board focused on the students, families, educators and communities we serve.”
