Narcan is a life-saving medication used to reverse opioid overdoses. Forest travel
The White River National Forest is open for summer motorized and mountain bike travel, however, “conditions vary, and not every road … will be dry or passable,” stated recreation program manager Sam Massman. “We’re asking visitors to please be patient and avoid using muddy roads and trails until they have time to dry out and harden to minimize damage.” Some roads and trails are not scheduled to open until later. Find details at www.fs.usda.gov/whiteriver

Wildfire detection
In early June, Crown Mountain will be equipped with a new active wildfire detection system by Pano AI, enhancing Valley-wide wildfire preparedness. The installation is funded by the Roaring Fork Valley Wildfire Collaborative with support from Roaring Fork Fire Rescue Authority and one generous local donor. This addition of panoramic cameras with AI technology and human analysts will join a network of eight others from Aspen to Glenwood Springs. “This technology enables us to monitor vast areas in real-time, providing critical early warnings that help us mobilize resources faster and more effectively,” stated Roaring Fork Fire Rescue Fire Chief Scott Thompson.

Recent fatalities
The Garfield County coroner recently reported three tragic fatalities. Marshall Eanes, 23 years old, was riding a motorcycle that collided with a vehicle on Highway 82 at the Catherine Store Road intersection on Sunday, May 19. Kelvin Velis Rivera, 28 years old, drowned at Harvey Gap State Park while paddleboarding on May 18. Diego Gutierrez Caraveo, 26 years old, drowned at Rifle Gap Reservoir while paddleboarding on May 12. Neither of the drowning victims were wearing personal flotation devices nor a leash and both had reportedly consumed substances prior to recreating.

Sunday delays
Motorists traveling Highway 82 between Carbondale and El Jebel on May 19 were diverted onto Catherine’s Store Road (westbound first, then eastbound) after a mudslide spilled down the hillside, caused by a pitch pipe that failed at the Western Slope Materials gravel pit around 5:30am.
