On Saturday, Dec. 20, The Center for Human Flourishing and Two Rivers Unitarian Universalist (TRUU) invite the community to a volunteer-driven solstice celebration that is part ceremony, part participatory ritual, part concert and part theater. At 7pm, “The Longest Night: Persephone’s Journey — Descent into Darkness” brings an ancient Greek myth to life in the Community Hall at the Third Street Center. “We’re weaving together myth, theater and live music so that people can feel the solstice, not just hear about it,” explained event designer and facilitator Micha Schoepe. “All the participation is optional,” he added, “and will also feel very safe.” The event will conclude with cookies and cider around a fire outside. Then, on Dec. 21, TRUU presents “Return of the Light,” completing the story’s arc during their Sunday service. Courtesy photo
