The Carbondale Police Department is requesting footage from doorbell and other security cameras in the area of the Rio Grande Trail, 8th Street, Painted Lady Lane and Wheel Circle from Saturday, Nov. 2, 5-8pm, as well as reports of suspicious activity.

This follows a breaking and entering and sexual assault which took place in that area during that time frame. Police confirmed at a community meeting on Nov. 4 that the woman assaulted is elderly and physically okay, though recovering from a traumatic event which has made recalling details of the assailant difficult. For now the suspect is described only as a man in his 30s wearing a black hooded sweatshirt. The police stated they have insufficient evidence to tell them whether this was a crime of opportunity or planned attack. DNA was collected at the scene.

Anyone with information or evidence that may help with this investigation is requested to contact Sergeant Ciara Chacon at 970-510-1255 or cchacon@carbondaleco.net

The Sopris Sun will follow up with a full report this week.
