RFSD changes
Jonathan Delk was appointed on June 4 to the Roaring Fork School District Board of Education, representing District B. “In this appointment, we were looking for someone who already understands the work of a Board and is ready to dive into the critical issues such as budgets, policy governance, declining enrollments and focus on the wellbeing of students.” RFSD Board President Lindsay Defrates said in a press release. Delk will take the place of Betsy After, who resigned in April to support her son as he recovers from a ski accident. In addition, Alida Haslett will take the helm as Bridges High School’s principal this coming school year, bringing with her 12 years of experience as an educator in the Roaring Fork Valley. She most recently served as the Dean of the Rebound Program at Yampah Mountain High School.
Book award
Aspen authors Carolyn Golbus and Gary Gleason saw recognition for their book, “Meeting Your Magnificence: 111 Ways to Live from Your Higher Self,” which won the Nautilus Award in the Gift & Specialty Books category. “This recognition comes from a truly outstanding and competitive field of submissions from around the world. Your work stood out for its depth, vision and meaningful contribution, and we are proud to welcome you into the Nautilus family of award-winning authors,” the award organizers wrote.
EV training
Colorado Mountain College (CMC) and ZEV TECH Consulting (ZTC) are currently offering an EV Technician Training program this summer, with spots still available during the five-week period (starting June 8) in which the five-day courses are taught. “By training local technicians to diagnose these vehicles, fleets can collaborate more effectively with [Original Equipment Manufacturers] to expedite repairs, while simultaneously building a reliable service network that provides peace of mind for EV drivers traveling the I-70 corridor,” ZTC Technical Director Tom Pacheco said. The program runs from 8am to 5pm, Monday through Friday at CMC’s Automotive Technology Center in Glenwood Springs. One five-day class costs $3,750. Wildlife collision law
Colorado last month signed the Wildlife Collision Prevention Act into law, increasing funding to construct wildlife crossings across roadways. The law established the “Collision Prevention Fund,” dedicating annual funding for wildlife crossings and the conservation of habitat on each side of the crossings. The Colorado Department of Transportation estimated that the state saw over 7,700 vehicle-animal collisions in 2025, though the number could be higher due to underreporting, according to a Roaring Fork Safe Passages press release.

River report
Rivers in the Roaring Fork Watershed are flowing well below average, 21-62% of normal, according to Roaring Fork Conservancy’s (RFC) June 4 river report. There is no snowpack to measure at the nine regional SNOTEL sites, the report continued, and “stream flows are beginning to decrease at a time of year when they’re typically rising towards peak.” Beginning June 4, RFC will include weekly highwater temperature readings in its reports from gauges on the Roaring Fork River at Emma and Glenwood Springs, which were at 59.4 degrees Fahrenheit and 60.6, respectively, at the time of the report.
