ICE funding
“In the wake of Alex Pretti’s death, Congress appears on track for a partial shutdown,” National Public Radio reported on Jan. 26. Senate Democrats are needed to approve a $1.3 trillion spending package which includes funding boosts for ICE: $400 million more for detention and $370 million more for enforcement compared to last year. That’s on top of $170 billion allocated by the Big Beautiful Bill Act, which made ICE the highest-funded federal law enforcement entity in U.S. history, dolling out $50,000 sign-on bonuses for new recruits.
