Stage 1 fire restrictions were implemented on Wednesday, June 10, by Garfield and Pitkin counties, as well as the Town of Carbondale and the Bureau of Land Management Colorado River Valley Field Office. All burn permits are postponed or canceled, campfires are only allowed in designated firegrates in developed areas, no fireworks are allowed and smoking is only permitted within designated areas, enclosed vehicles or areas free of combustibles. For a list of additional Stage 1 restrictions, visit tinyurl.com/GarCorestrictions Causing a fire during restrictions can result in a class 6 felony, according to a Garfield County press release. These measures come on the heels of the ignition of two fires close to home on Tuesday, June 9: the Spring Creek Fire near Ruedi, which prompted evacuations, and the Paradise Fire in South Canyon (pictured), resulting in an hours-long closure of I-70 in both directions Tuesday afternoon into the evening.
